THE EARLY YEARS

Vestibulum velit orci bibendum!

Alma Mater

AIt was my honor to offer this prayer at our 50th Class Reunion: Steve Cook

Prayer for the Class of 1967

O Thou, Holy One of Blessing, we give thanks for this day. We give thanks for gathering this evening with those with whom we shared so much of our young lives. Some of us remained here, some of us left; some of us were casual acquaintances and some close friends; with some we shared special times and experiences we will always remember, yet we all carry within our hearts the valley, the hills, the streets, the places and the people of Norwich that gave us our start in life.

We remember, too, our classmates who, because of time and distance and circumstance are not with us tonight. We pray the best for them in their lives, wherever they may be.

And now in a moment of prayerful silence, we lift up the memories of our classmates who have passed away, whose time with us has ended but whose time with you, Lord, is now renewed and deepened into eternity. . . . Their trials have ended and in their return to You, Great Source of Creative Love, they have found their peace. We pray for them and all who loved them.

Lastly, Lord, we give thanks for this bounty that we are about to receive, for the earth from which it came, for the hands that have prepared and served it and for all of our many gifts. With open hearts and spirits, this we pray.

 Amen.

With light thy brow is crowned,

With hope thy form is shrouded,

Thy face shines forth unclouded,

O Alma Mater dear.

Our burdens are made lighter,

Our inspirations brighter,

Our vows for right are mightier,

To thee, O Mother dear.

The chimes of memory sounding,

Thy praise with faith abounding,

Confess our love redounding,

To thee, O Mother dear.

When years have passed thee rolling,

Their mysteries unfolding,

We promise to be holding,

Thine image Mother dear.
